For how long have been in art? How did you start?
I took my first Art course in Hong Kong in 1994. Before that time, I had never thought of becoming an artist but when I started to experiment by myself, I could not stop…

How would you define yourself as an artist?
I am a mixed media artist using my hands and a lot of other tools.

Would you tell us some things about yourself? Please include a few little known facts about you as well.
Born in France, lived for 10 years in Hong Kong and Singapore, moved in Canada in 2001. Married to the same man since 1981, 3 sons, 2 daughters-in-law, 1 grand daughter, 1 dog, 1
cat. Like to move very often to give me the opportunity to make a new interior design each time !!!

Where do you find inspiration?
In my everyday life… Vintage pictures find in old book, flea markets or family albums, the words of a song or the reading of a book, a bird’s song during my morning walk, inspiration from fashion, from other artist’s work or an idea coming from nowhere…

What are you trying to communicate with your art?
I noticed in my life that my happiness is defined by small things, particular moments as my brain focuses on an object or another, that event or this one … When I look at a work of art it’s the same thing, I need to approach and see on the surface elements that appear to me particularly beautiful or touching or poetic or make me smile … It is this feeling that I
will like to communicate in my work. this little gift that we make ourselves in the discovery of beauty…

Why do you do … what you do?
Because it make me happy !!

What does “being creative” mean to you?
Being awake and attentive at how every moment could be an opportunity for magic !

Any shows, galleries, or publications where our readers can find your work?

same for my Facebook page : https://www.facebook.com/Maryline.Lemaitre.Page.Officielle/
and mostly everyday some news from the studio on my instagram :

And I trust the galleries that work with me for the rest…

Which is your most cherished piece?
The next one ! But I should admit I have a few artworks in my home that I keep for sentimental reasons.

If you had an exclusive collective exhibition with other artists work, who would you choose?
I will love to have the opportunity to make one over-size painting in a huge space to match with one giant installation of Wolfgang Laib and his sacred art.

What do you see as the strengths of your pieces, visually or conceptually?
The layers and small details on the surface, the textures and the childlike atmosphere…

What aspect of your work do you pay particular attention to?
Composition and colors and the quality of the surface with an aging process…

What role does the artist have in society?
I think, like Georgia O’Keeffe :Art is..« Filling a space in a beautiful way.«

What is your most treasured memory?
My most treasured memories are all human related. Wonderful experiences and magic moments with my family during travel all around the world.

What for you is the most enjoyable part of your art?
Being alone in my « little bubble » and doing what I love to do on my own agenda with my own rythme is a blessing !

What famous artists have influenced you, and how?
The « spots » of Damien Hirst, the colors of Rothko, the mixed medias of Robert Rauschenberg, the expressionism of Cy Twombly, the minimalism of Agnès Martin, the paper cut out and glue of Henri Matisse, the freedom of Jean-Michel Basquiat to name a few…

What other interests do you have outside of art?
